Entre lo sagrado y lo profano: Un diálogo de contrastes
El clasicismo italiano de Juan Francisco Casas. En ‘O(h)RomaO(h)Morte’, el artista nos invita a recorrer un laberinto de pasiones y contrastes donde la historia del arte dialoga con la experiencia íntima y contemporánea. La obra es un ejercicio de apropiación y reinterpretación, un palimpsesto visual donde las huellas del pasado emergen filtradas por la subjetividad del creador.
En este proyecto, fruto de su estancia en Roma como becario de la Real Academia de España, Casas despliega una constelación de referencias que van desde la magnificencia barroca de Bernini hasta la crudeza cinematográfica de Pasolini, atravesando el tenebrismo de Caravaggio y la sensualidad renacentista de Rafael y Cagnacci.
El eje conceptual de la muestra se sustenta en la dialéctica entre lo sagrado y lo profano, un tránsito que el artista resuelve mediante un proceso de desplazamiento iconográfico. Casas no solo cita, sino que transforma y subvierte; su obra es un trasvase de significados donde la espiritualidad se hibrida con el erotismo, donde el éxtasis místico se desvela como un correlato de la pulsión sexual.
En este juego de tensiones, las visiones arrebatadas de Santa Teresa y la Beata Ludovica de Bernini encuentran un eco en la carnalidad de la Magdalena ‘svenuta’ de Cagnacci o en la enigmática Fornarina de Rafael. Casas no reproduce estas imágenes con devoción historicista, sino que las reinterpreta a la luz de su propia biografía y del contexto vital contemporáneo, inscribiendo en ellas un signo de actualidad.

La materialidad de la muestra acentúa esta ambivalencia conceptual: más de treinta dibujos, ejecutados con bolígrafo y rotulador BIC, demuestran una maestría técnica que contrasta con la aparente banalidad del instrumento.
Este empleo de lo cotidiano como medio de expresión artística refuerza la transgresión implícita en la obra: el bolígrafo, herramienta común y efímera, se convierte en vehículo de imágenes que evocan la permanencia y solemnidad del arte clásico. Es en esta paradoja donde el trabajo de Casas adquiere su mayor profundidad.
Los temas que vertebran la exposición orbitan en torno a una iconografía marcada por la intersección de Eros y Thánatos. La carne se presenta como campo de batalla entre el placer y la destrucción: atrapada en los reflejos de látex o deformada por la violencia del metal en accidentes de tráfico, la corporalidad en ‘O(h)RomaO(h)Morte’ se muestra como un espacio de vulnerabilidad y exceso.
Casas traduce la intensidad emocional de sus referentes en imágenes que confrontan al espectador con lo ineludible del deseo y la finitud.
Esta exhibición no es solo un homenaje a la tradición artística italiana, sino un testimonio de su persistencia en la contemporaneidad. En la obra de Casas, el Barroco no es un anacronismo, sino una clave de lectura para comprender la sensibilidad del presente: la teatralidad de Bernini resuena en la espectacularización del cuerpo mediático; la violencia y el claroscuro de Caravaggio encuentran su eco en las imágenes de la cultura visual actual; la poética de Pasolini se cuela en la crudeza de un discurso que no teme transitar los márgenes de la belleza convencional.
‘O(h)RomaO(h)Morte’ es, en definitiva, una exploración del peso de la historia y su ineludible retorno en lo contemporáneo. Casas nos entrega una obra que, lejos de ofrecer respuestas unívocas, interpela, seduce e inquieta. Con una técnica impecable y una visión provocadora, el artista nos recuerda que el arte sigue siendo un espacio de tensión y revelación, un terreno donde la memoria y el deseo se entrelazan en un juego de luces y sombras, de carne y piedra, de vida y muerte.
