Operando desde el vibrante barrio de Brixton, GAIKA ha sabido radiografiar mejor que nadie este año el latir de una ciudad como Londres, tomando el grime, el dancehall y el hip hop como puntos de partida para dar forma a un sonido denso, urbano, industrial y al mismo tiempo romántico. SonarHall será por unas horas el hábitat de sus alucinantes composiciones, con un concierto que amplificará aún más las virtudes de “Spaghetto EP”, su debut en Warp, el primero de una trilogía de discos que se completará antes de que llegue al festival. El británico formó parte del colectivo de Manchester Murkage pero se dio a conocer con dos mixtapes en solitario, “Machine” (2015) y “Security” (2016), cargadas de canciones reflexivas y personales levantadas a partir de beats marcianos y acabados futuristas. Esta es su marca: emotividad y profundidad en el contenido, complejidad y experimentación en las formas. Además de los discos, Gaika ha desarrollado proyectos fílmicos (rodó un corto para acompañar el lanzamiento de “Security”) y se ha formado en artes escénicas y performativas, disciplinas que aplica a sus directos para ofrecer una experiencia sobre el escenario acorde con la expresividad de su discurso sonoro.

Operating from the vibrant London neighbourhood of Brixton, this year GAIKA has managed to capture the beating heart of London’s urban scene like no other, in music that uses grime, dancehall and hip hop as starting points to form a dense, urban, industrial as well as romantic sound. For a few hours SonarHall will transform into the setting for his astounding compositions, with a concert that will further reaffirm the strengths of “Spaghetto EP”, his debut on Warp, and the first of a trilogy of records due for release before his arrival at the festival. Originally part of Manchester collective Murkage, Gaika’s popularity grew following his two solo mixtapes, “Machine” (2015) and “Security” (2016); each loaded with reflective and personal songs elevated by otherworldly beats and futuristic production. This is his trademark: emotional and profound content, complex and experimental in form.
