El artista, rescata elementos gráficos dentro de los principales motores de búsqueda para luego crear piezas impresionantes con una destreza única. “En respuesta a nuestra cultura de la saturación de la imagen y la yuxtaposición visual, mis pinturas se funden en referencias dispares, incluyendo imágenes recogidas de mis búsquedas en línea, también en anuncios y redes sociales. Yo uso la impresión de transferencia de Xerox para traducir estas imágenes sobre el lienzo, luego trabajo aún más la imagen con pintura en aerosol, acrílicos y pintura al óleo. El resultado de las pinturas actualizan el legado del retrato en la era digital y reflejan la compleja forma en que nos relacionamos con información e imágenes en un mundo en línea”, nos explica AM DeBrincat.
Multidisciplinary artist AM DeBrincat uses everything in her artistic arsenal when producing her vivid portrait collages. With a mix of photography, painting and transfer printing, the Maltese-American artist’s visual arrangements carry the jaunty look of the underground art scene, reminiscent of Xeroxed zines and graffitied walls.
Her striking use of color in constructing faces stands out against a background of found photos which are delicately layered, a process “that complicates the boundaries between the digital and hand-wrought image, and which questions the lines we draw between the digital world and real life.”
